Jack Ng (Sky Greens vertical farm, Singapore)

  • Inventor and founder of the Sky Greens vertical farm, Singapore.

     

    Jack Ng has over 28 years of experience in the construction and engineering industry.  Prior to the agriculture industry, he has consulted, designed and built houses, automated aluminum and glass systems for the construction industry.  In 2009, Jack applied his extensive knowledge from the construction industry and invented Singapore’s first vertical soil-based rotating farming system.

    In 2010, through collaboration with Singapore’s Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA), Jack was able to successfully prove the commercial viability of his vertical system to increase vegetable production while minimizing use of natural resources (water, electricity, land) and reducing contamination to the environment.  For his innovation, Jack was awarded Singapore’s Ministry for National Development R&D Merit Award in 2011. 

    The Sky Greens vertical farm grow vegetables in towers that are up to 9 meters tall and covers 3.65 hectares.  The farm started selling a variety of vegetables commercially in May 2012.  For more information of the farm, please visit http://www.skygreens.com
